    Audio/Midi

KVR Audio. I don't know how I missed this one earlier. It's my current fave for disussions about all sorts of samplers and sampling formats. There's just about everything there including official support forums for many applications. I think this is one of the oldest and definitely one of the best.

Pro Sound Web The Holy Grail of audio forums, PSW is frequented by some of the best names in audio. Treat them with respect and just lurk until you've got something real to say. This link is also a gateway to the Marsh forums, which are little less 'heady'.

Tweakheadz Electronic Musicians Café is an excellent site for audio and midi advice. In connection with some of the material I present in the Demo editing tutorials, you might want to read Tweak's article on Midi Controllers.

Studioforums.com A very useful forum. Check out The Listening Sessions. Dot recorded Jazzoo's CD, mentioned in the link below, in the 'and beyond' section.

Looperman is a Free Audio Resource for everyone from electronic musicians to film and video producers and multi media designers. The site is packed with free loops and samples, tutorials and useful links.

VS-Planet The welcome screen will tell you that this is a support forum for Roland V-Studio users, but it's actually rather more than that. It's very busy forum and a great family of audio enthusiasts who are always ready with some good advice and fellowship. Answers to questions often show up in a few minutes.

sectionz forums This is a new one for me, but looks like it will be very useful. It has about 12000 registerd users as of Feb '06.

samplearena This is a nice forum with lots of dicussion about making and using samples -smaller than the others, but seems very good.

Loops4free.net, a nice, tight and well laid out directory of links to harware, software, loops, samples and forums. Kris is also webmaster at ReasonFreaks.com, a very good independent forum for the Propellorheads Reason crowd.

    Acoustics

Acoustics Forum Want some intelligent advice on Acoustic Treatment and Analysis? This is the place to start -some very brilliant contributors.

    the Calgary Music (Jazz) Scene

This is a very short list that will grow... ...and grow. The tough part is going to be figuring out where it stops!

Beat Niq, the home of jazz in Calgary. Rob and Connie have built this club/restaurant up from a bohemian left-bank bistro to one of the leading jazz clubs in western Canada, with some of the best food in town.

CalgaryJazz.com, a driving force in the promotion of jazz in Calgary -events listings.

jazz elements, by Cindy McLeod, (who also belongs in the next grouping), seemed to start with a real local slant, but it's quickly becoming a great omnibus of Canadian Jazz & Blues. Go, Cindy! -and book us a few more gigs. It's been far too long!

    Player & Singers

Bruce Petherick What can I say about Bruce? A thorough musician, stellar intellect, a huge heart and a fast friend. The best Australian export I've seen yet! Bruce had a great deal to do with the construction of this site.

  • Manic Thematic John Hyde with Ralf Buschmeyer, and soon to add Andy Ericson on drums.
  • Sillan and Young I love this sound.
  • Pat Belliveau Check Pat's bio! He's done it all, and we're so lucky to have him.
  • Bob Day, one of the finest, but most web-elusive players in Canadian jazz. I'll dig up a link somewhere!
  • PrimeTimeBigBand A collection of Calgary's finest, er, best!
  • Glennis Houston I love working with Glennis, a.k.a. 'the Spitfire Girl'. She digs in and interacts with the instrumentalists like no other singer I've worked with.
  • ...and Beyond

Some great folks I've met on the web, who have encouraged and advised me from time to time.

  • Ed Bauman, Bauman Productions, Brentwood, California -a very generous 'guru' on the Reason forum.
  • Jazzoo Doug Robinson, whom I met on the VS-Planet forum. A wonderful player, and a fine human being.
  • Jayson Smiley a.k.a.Kid-surf on VS-Planet. Want a film score? Check this out!
  • John Knowles John has been helpful and supportive -great guy, and a 2 time National Fingerpickers Hall of Famer!
  • manytone.com, home of Manytone Music (ManyGuitar, ManyStation, ManyMiniAmp and the Ulitimate Bass Kit). Paul is an oldtimer at the sampling game, with some award winning products, a moderator on KVR and a fellow Calgarian! We'll be working on getting The SampleSmith G1 into ManyGuitar format.
